Edinburgh Open Research

Good Research is Open Research

At Edinburgh, we have adopted LERU’s eight pillars to structure our path to a truly open research culture.

  • Culture Change
  • Future of Scholarly Publishing
  • FAIR Data
  • EOSC
  • Education & Skills
  • Recognition & Rewards
  • Next-generation Metrics
  • Research Integrity
  • Citizen Science & Participatory Research

We work with various teams across the University to support and advocate for Open Research best practice, helping all research activity at the University to become more Open.

Open Research Conference

The Open Research Conference is hosted by the University of Edinburgh every May. The conference is free to attend and everyone is are welcome.

Details about 2025’s conference, along with submission guidelines, will be released soon.

Open Research Services

Involve is based at the Library and acts as a partner and source of support for all forms of Participatory Research taking place across the University. This encompasses a range of approaches including “Citizen Science”, “Co-Production”, and “Public Involvement in Research”

The Research Data Service provides a suite of tools and support that helps staff and students be effective with their research data before, during and after their projects.

Open Research Strategy

The University has made great strides in incorporating Open Research into the heart of research practice. An annual Open Research Roadmap is produced and available online. The Edinburgh Open Research Roadmap will guide our move towards Open Research as the “new normal” across all research disciplines in the university. As an active member of the League of European Research Universities (LERU) we have based this roadmap on the “Open Science and its role in universities: a roadmap for cultural change”
