Edinburgh Open Research
Good Research is Open Research
At Edinburgh, we have adopted LERU’s eight pillars to structure our path to a truly open research culture.
- Culture Change
- Future of Scholarly Publishing
- FAIR Data
- EOSC
- Education & Skills
- Recognition & Rewards
- Next-generation Metrics
- Research Integrity
- Citizen Science & Participatory Research
We work with various teams across the University to support and advocate for Open Research best practice, helping all research activity at the University to become more Open.
Open Research Conference
The Open Research Conference is hosted by the University of Edinburgh every May. The conference is free to attend and everyone is are welcome.
Details about 2025’s conference, along with submission guidelines, will be released soon.
Open Research Resources Library
We’ve curated a selection of resources to help ensure that research follows best practice in Open Research, ranging from guidance on how to start incorporating Open Research practices into your day-to-day work to information on other organisations and institutions that can offer further guidance, support, or a community of peers to help you with your work.
You can explore resources by theme, search for a specific topic, or simply browse through all resources to see what information might be of interest to you. Whatever your previous experience with open research, we encourage you to take from these resources what you can.

Open Research Strategy
Strategy and Roadmap
The University has made great strides in incorporating Open Research into the heart of research practice. An annual Open Research Roadmap is produced and available online. The Edinburgh Open Research Roadmap will guide our move towards Open Research as the “new normal” across all research disciplines in the university. As an active member of the League of European Research Universities (LERU) we have based this roadmap on the “Open Science and its role in universities: a roadmap for cultural change”.
Open Research Newsletter
Our newsletter is sent twice a semester and includes information about workshops, events, and training opportunities, updates on Open Research activities across the three colleges, and broader interesting news relating to open research.
